Go to Part III...

Kieler Förde

By on at 4:00 PM
I caught a cargo ship just entering a pool of light on its way out to the Baltic Sea. This is somewhere between Heikendorf and Laboe on the Kieler Förde.

Disco with Yorck

By on at 11:30 PM
Tonight, Ronja had us over to her apartment in Kiel to get drunk and then go to Disco.
To be honest, we didn't get up to much dancing: just hung around in a bar in the nightlife district and shot the shit with cousin Yorck and his girlfriend. It was great! Matthias' taxi company took us home at 4 am.

THW Handball Game

By on at 8:00 PM
German handball is popular in Kiel because Kiel has demonstrably the best team in Germany, and arguably the best in the world. The game is a mix between soccer and basketball, I would say, with some of the best parts of each. Matthias, Anne, and the American kids went to a game downtown Saturday evening and it was packed!
Kiel won handily. Aber Natürlich. THW (Tay-Ha-Vay)!

No Adults Allowed!

By on at 11:45 PM
On Friday night, the American kids and the Bavarian kids played a rousing game of Cards Against Humanity down at the Ferien Haus. No pictures exist of the event, but I would like to commemorate it and invite comments, nonetheless. :)

Fresendorf

By on at 4:00 PM
Fresendorf is where Uncle Max lives with his wife Bärbel, and daughter Mia. The whole family visited for a walk in the country, kaffee and kuchen, and dinner at Alte Packhus.

Laboe U-boot Ehrenmal

By on at 12:00 PM
A 20-minute bike ride from Heikendorf is Laboe, another small village on the Kieler Förde with a tall monument and a real U-boot on the beach. The climb is 15 stories and the view from top is quite impressive. It was completed in 1936 with Adolf himself presiding over the dedication to the Kaiser's WWI marines. It was rededicated in 1954 to the dead sailors of all countries.

Rote Grütze

By on at 11:00 PM

My two littlest siblings enjoying some of our favorite dessert, Rote Grütze, which is some sort of wild berry pudding. My Oma always has some ready for us, she makes it herself.

Rami, Oma & Nina

Here is a lovely picture of my brother in law, my grandma, and my sister.

Franz Fuchs

By on at 8:00 PM
For my Oma's birthday present, I spent two days drawing this dapper fox riding a bicycle.
Bic pen and white colored pencil.

Sonnenblumen

Tyler took these great pictures of a field of sunflowers at the Freilichtmuseum. Better than mine turned out...

Freilicht Museum

By on at 2:00 PM
The Freilicht Museum about 20 minutes outside of Kiel is a place like colonial Williamsburg, where they try to recreate a historical Schleswig-Holstein. Most of the houses have been taken apart at their original location and reconstructed brick by brick on the museum's plot of land.

We saw ye olde Apotek...

Ye olde chemistry lab...

Ye olde Smithy... (photo by Tyler)

A frightening array of whaler's weapons and spearwife scowls...

...and a few olde windmills. This one would have rotated on its platform to catch
the wind from whichever direction it came.
